Long Beach , CA, USA-- Two-time Grammy Award winner, Patti LaBelle, will be featured at the Long Beach Pride Celebration, on Friday night, May 21st, 2004, at 8:00p.m. In conjunction with the 21st Annual Pride Celebration, this will be the first Friday night Pride concert at the annual festival site Marina Green Park, on Shoreline Drive, in Long Beach. “It is with great honor and distinction that Long Beach is proud to announce an evening with the incomparable, fabulous Patti LaBelle,” said Elisa McConnehea, President of Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. Patti LaBelle has produced ten albums for MCA including one platinum and three gold albums. Along with three Emmy nominations and two American Music Awards, she is also on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “Adoring fans, her peers and the worldwide media know that Patti LaBelle has been giving her all through her recordings and in stage performances since 1961, when she led the Bluebells to a million-selling hit “I Sold My Heart to the Junkman”. Since then, the Philadelphia native has been a chart staple through a half dozen hits and later a stunning solo artist with over thirty charted singles,” said Vanessa Romain, a Vice President of Pride who chairs the Entertainment Committee for the festival. Patti LaBelle’s foundation, The Patti LaBelle Medical Education Scholarship Fund, is administered through the National Medical Association. Patti LaBelle has also served as the spokesperson for the National Minority Aids Council, the National Cancer Institute, and the American Diabetes Association. 200 “exclusive” VIP tickets for the Friday night “Patti LaBelle by the Ocean” concert will be on sale, for $100 each, in early April, at the Long Beach Pride office, located at 1017 Obispo Ave. in Long Beach. Cash or cashier’s checks are the only acceptable forms of payment. A lottery style drawing of 50 of the VIP tickets will include a cocktail reception with Ms. LaBelle, prior to the concert.
